Junior Section (ages 9-17)
Our Junior Section, for athletes aged 9 to 17, is designed to spark and nurture a lasting interest in athletics. Young athletes are introduced to a wide range of disciplines — including sprints, middle-distance and cross country running, jumping, and throwing — in a supportive and engaging environment. Our coaches are specifically trained to work with children and adolescents, with a thoughtful approach that reflects the physical and emotional stages of development. The emphasis is on fun and participation in the early years, gradually progressing to more structured training and performance development as athletes grow.
Our Junior Section trains on Mondays and Wednesdays at Wishaw Sports Centre from 6pm to 7:30pm, with weekend sessions taking place dependent on timing of events. Annual membership for junior members is £15, with monthly sub of £19 covering track fees and other costs.
Please see here for more information in our Key Information for Parents FAQ.
Want to give us a try? Great! Read our FAQ document above and if you are happy with that, then please hit the ‘Give us a try’ button, fill in your details and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. Our Junior Section currently has FOUR intakes a year in January, April, August & October
Once registered, we will invite you and your child/children to the next available intake, where we will provide a six-week induction. This allows us to teach the foundations of athletics training while allowing you to decide if MAC is the right place for you and your child. MAC offers four free sessions to allow you and your child to get a feel for our club before deciding whether to commit to full time membership.
Track and Field (ages 18 and over)
Motherwell Athletic Club offers specialist coaching in track and field for both developing and experienced athletes. Our programmes support older children and young adults who are beginning to focus on specific disciplines, as well as adults — whether competing as Seniors (ages 20–34) or Masters (35+). Coaching is delivered by qualified and experienced coaches, with dedicated sessions in sprints, middle-distance running, jumping, and throwing events.

Senior Endurance (ages 18 and over)
Motherwell Athletic Club has a thriving and inclusive Senior Endurance team that trains and competes throughout the year in road running, cross country, and track events. Whether you're just getting into structured training and want to improve your fitness, or you're chasing a new personal best in anything from the 5K to the marathon, MAC can support you.
Led by UK Athletics-qualified coaches with expertise in adult endurance development, our sessions cater to a wide range of abilities — from recreational runners to seasoned competitors. If you can comfortably run 10K, you’ll find a place in our friendly and encouraging team, where runners of all ages and ambitions train together and progress at their own pace.
Senior Endurance trains on Tuesdays and Thursdays usually leaving from the Boathouse in Strathclyde Park at 6:30pm, with Saturday and Sunday sessions starting between 9:30 and 10am. Sessions focus on quality (with interval/speed sessions, threshold and progressive runs) as well as quantity (long, easy runs) allowing you to shape your training to what suits you best – and if you need help, just ask our coaches! Annual membership for senior members is £35 (£25 for FT student/unemployed/65+ years), with a monthly sub of about £5 to cover other costs.
