Awesome Achievement Alert!

Congratulations to our Senior Endurance athlete and ultra star Evan who this weekend completed one EPIC adventure!!

Taking on the Ring O’ Fire Coastal Ultra marathon, this event was previously run in 3 separate stages over consecutive days. This year marked the first time it was to be held non-stop. A lap of the Anglesey Coastal path in Wales. 130 miles. 55 hours to complete.

Evan said the following..

“We set off on a lovely morning from Holyhead, heading clockwise. We had to retrieve pages from a book at various locations to prove our presence, just like the Barkley Marathons!

The terrain was pretty varied, coastal paths, rocky beaches, sandy beaches and a mountain in the last 5 miles just to give you something to look forward to.

Day 1 was beautiful weather and made good progress, day 2 turned into a battle for survival – 50mph coastal winds, lashing rain and a 50% DNF rate tells the story. I also had to deal with some challenges including running way past a checkpoint and having to backtrack in my sleep-deprived state and my headtorch dying at the worst possible moment on the final mountain.

Determined to prove to myself I could finish something of this duration. Very proud to get this done.

I covered 136 miles, 5000 metres of climb in 37hrs and 36 minutes to finish in 18th place.

Thanks to all at the club for the support and messages before, during and after the race.”

Absolutely outstanding Evan!! We’re all in awe of this!! What an inspiration!! Congratulations from everyone at MAC
