Membership Enquiries

Initially, you don’t have to be a member of MAC and may attend any of the club training sessions and simply pay the appropriate training fees. We normally allow a period of approximately two weeks to give you time to decide whether or not MAC is for you. After this, if you decide to continue training with the club, you will be required to apply for membership.

Training Sessions

The club has two sections to it – Track and Field (T&F) and Senior Endurance (SE, sometimes Road Runners/RR). The T&F section caters for those aged 9 and up while Senior Endurance caters for 18 and over.

Please see the following pages for more details about each section, including training dates, times and locations.

Constitution and Code of Conduct

Before applying for membership you should have investigated the benefits, privileges and obligations of joining MAC. The club insists on a certain standard of discipline from its members and in applying for membership you are committing to comply with this. MAC has the right to expel members whose conduct is unacceptable.

Please acquaint yourself with the various documents displayed on the club notice boards and which are accessible below before applying for membership.

The membership year is 1st January to 31st December. Existing memberships are deemed lapsed if not renewed by 1st March. New members joining from October onwards are covered for membership of the following year.

If you are already a member of another athletics club then that is your first-claim club. If you subsequently join a second club, that is your second claim club.

Second claim members are welcome to train with MAC and take part in club social events. However, only first claim members qualify for points/places in internal club competitions or may compete in open competitions on behalf of MAC (unless by prior agreement of the management of both clubs and the event organisers). First claim members will always have priority in team selection. If you want to change your first claim club to be MAC, please complete this form and return to Scottish Athletics.

Family Membership

A 25% discount is applied to the cost of each family member where there is a minimum of three first claim members and this must include at least one senior.  Please contact Jim Smith for more information.

Voting Rights

At the Annual General Meeting (and other MAC meetings), only fully paid-up first claim members of 15 years and older are eligible to vote.

Applying for Membership

Online membership is the fastest and easiest way to join. We use the secure payment system on the Entry Central website.

By applying online you are agreeing to the following declarations. These also apply to parents/guardians who are applying on behalf of juniors/children under 18 yrs of age:

Please note there is a £1.50 payment processing charge for senior memberships and a £1 charge for other categories.

If you want to use the family discount option (25% discount applied to each family member where there is a minimum of three first-claim members and this must include at least one senior), you can now join online.

  • Apply individually online via the EntryCentral website
  • Send an email to Jim Smith to let him know
  • He will issue you a cheque for the discounted 25%

Paper membership forms can be printed off below. Please complete and return to any MAC committee member with the appropriate fee.

In addition, from May 2011, Junior members pay their weekly fees by Standing Order. This can be setup through online banking or completing the mandate form and handing this in to your bank. Please use the members name as the Payee Reference.

The club is a full member of Scottish Athletics and we have many members who have progressed from local Job Scotland groups into Motherwell AC.

What do I get for my membership?

New first-claim members receive a Motherwell AC vest. See Shop page for details of other kit items.

Everyone gets access to training sessions and club social events as well as sparkling wit and repartee from coaches and fellow members. Senior members can join training runs in scenic parts of Lanarkshire and occasionally beyond.

MAC competes in various events in different parts of Scotland, some of which involve subsidised travel. There are also discounts available in many specialist running shops on production of a MAC membership card. Members are entitled to discounted membership of the Boat House Gym in Strathclyde Park.

Well done to everyone who took part in the first outdoor open graded at Livingston last night. Some great performances from our young athletes. It ran a bit late so the 800’s and cool downs were done in the dark and cold! ... See MoreSee Less

A quiet news weekend round up this week:

Mark Gallacher stole the show with a terrific PB at the Round the Houses 10k in Grangemouth, Mark got under 37 minutes for the first time with a fantastic 36:27. (Still hasn’t learned how to pin on a number though 😀).

We don’t normally cover parkruns as they aren’t races, however, when members travel far and wide to participate recognition is duly deserved:

Peter Blackmore was the furthest travelled running 24:21 at the Clermont Waterfront parkrun in Florida, USA.

Andrew Scott was in France at the parkrun du Lac de Divonne and ran 27:12

Nigel Hetherington and Angela Malcolm were up in Lochore Meadows and both ran 25:49 as part of a longer training run. Angela completing her 50th parkrun.

Christie Nisbet was in Dunfermline and ran 23:44 on a tough wee course.

Finally, Kevin Durnian ran at his 20th different venue at Edinburgh in 20:50.

Good luck to all our running friends running Boston tomorrow!
