These were some of the main points discussed at the meeting:
Following the National Road Relay event in Livingston, there was a discussion about the selection of non-members to run for the club in relay teams. The committee decided that in future only club members would be chosen to run in first teams but that non-members could be selected to make up second or other teams in order to ensure a competitive element existed in the event for the MAC members in those teams. After a discussion about the way in which the teams for Livingston were selected, Benny Hands said he would be resigning from the committee and the road runners' sub-committee and left the meeting. The club is to host a track and field league meeting at Wishaw on May 27. There was more praise for the club kit and the meeting heard that there appeared to be an increasing demand for short-sleeved training tops. A supplier has not yet been found for men's shorts but Clare Barr has sourced a possible supplier for tracksuits. The proposal to stage a race later this year has been shelved for the time being due to pressure of work on those who were in the early stages of organising the event. The full minutes will be posted after the May meeting.
This was a brief meeting with little other than regular items on the agenda to discuss. The committee congratulated Lewis Gibb for coming runner-up in Hamilton Sports Council's Junior Performer of the Year Awards 2006. The aim is to hold a sports therapy evening with Kenny Muir giving advice on sports massage and other related issues on Thursday April 12. The new club kit was praised and Clare Barr was thanked for her work in organising its supply and delivery. The committee agreed that there was no question of young members being asked to pay for attendance at Saturday morning training sessions in Strathclyde Park. Yvonne Murray has advised the committee that she no longer wishes to continue in the position of honorary president. The committee agreed to thank her for her contribution to the club. The full minutes will be posted after the April meeting.
A range of business was discussed at the meeting. One item which stands out is the fact that the club now has more than 100 paid-up members, which was taken to be something of a milestone. Mention was made of the fact that not only was this a very welcome number of members but that only a small handful of members in 2006 had not yet renewed their subscriptions.
The new format of the Road Runners' Championship was discussed. The winners of last year's Time Trial Championship will receive their trophies at the February trial. On the Track & Field side, the committee heard that five athletes would be part of the North Lanarkshire "Sports Hall" team. Joanne Nichol, a previous member of the club who now holds a Level 2 coaching badge, has expressed interest in returning to coach technical events. Joanne is a former long jump record holder and now participates in pentathlons. The committee warmly welcomed the prospect of her return.
The order for the club kit has been placed and the hope is that it will be with us in mid to late February. We will organise a joint RR/T&F session so we can get some pictures of members in the new colours.
The club's balance sheet stands at £6,183.59 before the deduction of the payment for the kit, which is in excess of £2,000.
Full minutes will be posted after they are approved at the February meeting.
Five committee members attended this meeting. Others sent apologies because of previous commitments. There was a discussion about the prize-giving ceremony earlier in the month, the introduction of the new club colours and transport to and from events for Track and Field members
The main business from the meeting was the choice of Wasp Sports as the club's main kit supplier. Full details of the available kit and how it can be ordered are on a new section of the website called Club Kit. Related to this was the need for members to renew their subscriptions as soon as possible to help with the ordering of vests in the new club colours. This can be done online here.
It was agreed that road runners should be asked to pay £2 to contribute to the cost of catering and drink after the Christmas Handicap event on Sunday December 17 at the Watersports Centre. Track & Field athletes will be asked to pay £1. The hope was expressed again that T&F members would participate in the four-mile event, possibly in relay teams.
The meeting heard that numbers at T&F sessions continued to be high despite the recent bad weather and this was warmly welcomed by the committee.
Full minutes will follow after they have been approved at the December committee meeting.
