Place and date of birth: Long long time ago in a galaxy far away
Occupation: Maths teacher, Uddingston Grammar School
How long have you been a runner/athlete? Always ran a little, mostly for recreation, although I feel like a yo-yo since I have been on and off several times over the years. This is my first club and I wish I had done this earlier!
What do you enjoy most about running/athletics? What do you enjoy most about running/athletics: Three things, firstly I like the personal challenge, secondly the camaraderie at the club is excellent and lastly the benefits of good health, leaner physique and fitness are transferable to many active pursuits.
Favourite race/event and PB: I enjoy shorter runs but the 10k is my preferred distance. My PB for 10k is 41mins 17 secs (1999) and in my one and only marathon in Glasgow (1986) my PB is 2hrs 49mins.
Favourite food: Anything healthy, tend to eat low GI and less processed foods, little carbohydrate, plenty of fruit and veg. Quite partial to porridge, salmon, steak, Green and Black’s dark chocolate, mixed nuts and red wine
Favourite holiday destination: Several, I like to see the world. Like Florida for fun, Norway for relatives, Canada for scenery and lifestyle, Balearics and Canaries for sun, scuba diving and water polo at the poolside, Bulgaria for cheap skiing and France for nothing
Hobbies (apart from running/athletics): Snooker, 5-a-sides, watching footie (especially Motherwell and Arsenal), outdoor pursuits like hill walks and Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.
Lifetime's ambition:Several. Reverse time, regain my goldie locks and good looks and trade in my missus for a new Ferrari. Seriously though, to learn something new every year till I push the daisies up, e.g. Salsa, play saxophone, etc. To try all the dangerous sports and activities I can, this is the Darwinian tendencies coming out in me.
